MIDDLE SCHOOL INTERNET SAFETY

Middle school online safety program from LAUSD.

PERSONAL LEARNING DEVICES

Here at Harry Bridges Span School we prepare students for life in the 21st century.  One way we do this is to integrate technology in classrooms.

All middle school classrooms will have access to classroom sets of iPads for use in class.  If parents want to purchase iPads for their students for use at school and home, we will work with parents to make sure their child's device contains all the necessary applications used at school.

Check cables:

  • Electricity, is it connected from the back of the computer to the power surge and is the power surge on?
  • Ethernet cable, is it connected from the back of the computer to the ethernet port in the wall?

  • In "finder" mode check the airport connection on the menu (upper portion of screen), it looks like a fan and it should have dark lines, if not, click and select airport and use password.

Log in:

  • If you already have an account, click on your name; standard password is employee number.  LAUSD SSO's do not work for logging in locally.
  • Student accounts should log in automatically at start-up.  To log in as a staff member you will have to log out of the student account (apple, log out).
  • If in another classroom, log in as “teacher.”

Printer:

  • If the printer is not responding, check first that is connected to the wall  and on.
  • Check that you are printing to the right wireless printer.  Within the HBSS network, when you select "print," check that the correct printer is displayed.  If not, click the arrow next to the printer name and choose your room from the drop down list.
  • If all else fails, turn off printer, then turn on again, and if still not responding, restart your computer.

Weird Issues:

  • Rule #1: RESTART computer. Many times, that takes care of the issue.

Misc:

  • ALWAYS LOG OUT WHEN YOU LEAVE YOUR ROOM!!!! Anyone can access your files. Also, if on the desktop computers, always log out because we do not want students to access administrator authorizations.

If everything else fails, be sure you write and send me a request for repair with DETAILED INFORMATION to call ITD in case we need them to repair computer.
